Meet Guruji

Who Is Risi SriVaso?

Risi grew up in a devout Hindu family, deeply rooted in Tantra and Yoga, which gave him early exposure to Sanskrit, spiritual texts, and inner sciences. His time in Ashrams allowed him to immerse in authentic Yoga practices under the personal guidance of prominent yoga masters, including J. Krishnamurti. Risi was then mentored by prominent B.K.S. Iyengar, who significantly impacted his Yoga journey and with whom he assisted in therapeutic sessions, including Dalai Lama.

Extensively traveling and teaching Yoga internationally, Risi also devoted several years in Osho’s community. His transformative experiences at Osho’s Ashram, described as an elevation to a higher energetic template, deeply resonated with him. At Iyengar’s urging, Risi founded a traditional Yoga School in Goa in 2013.

Risi fervently believes in the inseparability of Tantra and Yoga, viewing them as twin systems of the eternal truth, “Sanatana Dharma”. He is explaining this intricate connection through his Satsangs, during which people find a deep sense of home-coming.

What is a Satsang?

What is a Kirtan

The word “Satsang” is composed of two parts: “Sat,” which means truth or true, and “Sanga,” which means association or gathering or being in the company of. Together, Satsang translates to “association with truth” or “gathering in the company of the truth.”

Satsang is a Sanskrit term that is commonly used in the context of spiritual gatherings, especially in Sanatana dharma and yogic traditions. In a Satsang, conscious individuals come together to engage in spiritual practices, such as meditation, chanting, singing devotional songs (bhajans), listening to spiritual discourses, and sharing insights about their spiritual journey.

Satsang creates a supportive and uplifting environment where participants can deepen their understanding of spiritual truths, find inspiration, and strengthen their connection to their inner selves and the divine. Satsang is not limited to any specific religion or belief system and it is open to people of all faiths and backgrounds.

It is often guided by a spiritual teacher or guru who shares wisdom, teachings, and experiences to help the participants on their spiritual path. The energy and collective focus on truth and spiritual growth in a Satsang create a powerful atmosphere that can be profoundly transformative and uplifting for participants. It is an opportunity to find solace, gain clarity, and experience a sense of unity with others on the spiritual journey. Satsangs are considered a precious opportunity to move closer to one’s true self and the higher reality beyond the material world.

Kirtan is a form of devotional chanting that originates from the Indian spiritual traditions. Rooted in the Vedic age, it is a practice of singing the Divine’s names, mantras, or sacred phrases in call-and-response style, usually accompanied by musical instruments like harmonium, mridangam, tablas, and cymbals.

The main objective of Kirtan is to cultivate a sense of devotion and to connect with the Divine. It serves as a meditative practice that aims to elevate the singer’s consciousness, allowing them to immerse in the present moment and experience a deep state of inner peace and joy. Over time, Kirtan has become a central practice in various spiritual paths, especially within the Bhakti Yoga tradition.

Participation in Kirtan does not require any formal training in music or any religious affiliation. It’s open to everyone and emphasizes collective participation, unity, and an open heart. The repetitive nature of Kirtan allows participants to lose themselves in the chant. As the mind immerses in the rhythm and melody, it gradually lets go of other distractions, leading to heightened states of concentration and ecstasy.

Kirtan’s increasing popularity in the global spiritual community speaks to its transformative power. This ancient practice, which transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries, has an intrinsic ability to connect humans to the deepest parts of themselves and to the vastness of the universe.
